This is a hospital stay story pack for helping children who have to have a stay in hospital. It is a very general story but one that will work for most children in this situation.

It can be scary for children when they have to go to hospital for an operation or tests. This story will help prepare them and help them cope with their stay in hospital.

Included in the Hospital stay story pack

  • Hospital stay front cover with space for a name and a 4 page story with images
  • Self talk mirror – pupils can use this to say positive things to themselves to help them be braver.
  • My feelings – How do they feel?
  • After you have been to hospital – things you are looking forward to doing boy version
  • After you have been to hospital – things are you looking forward to doing, girl version
  • Breathing exercises
  • Let’s chat about hospitals
  • A to Z of things found in a hospital
  • What might happen comic strip

The idea of this resource is to use the story and resources to help pupils to prepare for a stay in hospital.

We have other stories that might be helpful such as the ‘Feeling worried story pack’

"These resources are simply fantastic! They are reasonably priced (or free), and as a new ELSA, helped me to get set up and generate ideas for how to manage my planning, assessment, communication and sessions. Thank you, Debbie."
