Mindfulness Visualisation cards - ELSA Support For emotional literacy

Mindfulness Visualisation cards

These mindfulness visualisation cards can be used to stimulate discussion on feelings and emotions. When you look at a photo it really can make you actually ‘FEEL’ something.

Show the child a photograph and ask the following:

  • What can you ‘see’ ‘hear’, ‘feel’, ‘smell’ or ‘taste’? (Use their senses to describe the photo or imagine what it might be like to be there)
  • What do you think is happening in the picture?
  • Which emotion(s) does it make you feel?
  • Why does it make you feel that way?

There are obviously other questions that will develop from your discussions but I would start off with those 4 questions.

The mindfulness visualisation cards could also be used as an emotional register. Lay out the photos and ask the child which photo represents their feelings right now? Why?

These are full page photos but it is easy to print them at any size using your printer settings. Please see examples when you open the PDF.

"I am new ELSA practitioner and this site has been a huge help to me. Debbie is helpful too; I've messaged her on occasion to ask for advice and she has always been quick to reply with supportive ideas and suggestions. She has also, on request, adapted resources to suit the young age group I work with. Amazing!"
