It hurts game – Item 435
This ‘It hurts game’ is about understanding the difference between a physical pain and an emotional pain. We might fall and hurt our leg and that causes a physical pain whereas someone might be mean to us and that causes an emotional pain. This work will help to start discussions on where some situations can cause both a physical and an emotional pain. Also discussions on how emotional pain can also cause us to hurt physically. Of course physical pain can also cause us to hurt emotionally too. If you have broken your leg and suddenly can’t do all the things you normally do then that can hurt emotionally too. There are lots of connections between both.
I have always been amazed that children struggle sometimes with the difference between physical and emotional. If a child comes to you complaining of a tummy ache is there a physical cause or is it some emotional pain that is manifesting itself as a tummy ache. This game will help children to begin their journey on exploring and understanding that difference. It consists of simple scenarios where the child needs to decide which sort of pain it is. Lots of helpful discussions can be had whilst playing the game.
It comprises of:
- 63 scenario cards (9 per A4 page)
- an A4 gameboard (great for one to one working)
- an A3 gameboard (great for group work)
- A set of editable (in PowerPoint) scenario cards if you want to add your own.
