Tree of Calm
Anxiety can be challenging for children, making their thoughts feel busy and overwhelming much like a storm of swirling leaves. Our Tree of Calm resource offers a creative, comforting way for children aged 5 to 11 to explore what helps them feel safe, grounded, and peaceful.
The Tree of Calm features a simple, cloud-shaped bare tree where children can write or draw their own calming tools, thoughts, and supports. Surrounding the tree are leaf prompts designed to inspire ideas about comfort, soothing activities, trusted people, and sensory experiences.
This resource encourages children to reflect on their personal ways to manage anxiety, building emotional literacy and resilience in a kind, non-pressured way. It can be used by parents, teachers, ELSAs, or anyone supporting a child’s mental wellbeing.
Why use this resource?
To help children identify and name their calming strategies
To provide a safe, visual space for emotional reflection
To encourage discussion about feelings and self-care
To support emotional regulation skills in a creative format
Explore the Tree of Calm as part of your toolkit for nurturing children’s mental health and wellbeing this autumn and beyond.
