This Supergirls Communication Intervention is a fully resourced intervention designed for small group work with up to six girls. It is ideally delivered by an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) or a Teaching Assistant with a focus on emotional wellbeing. The programme supports girls in developing emotional awareness, relaxation strategies, calming techniques, and assertiveness skills.

Programme Structure:

  • Duration: 40–60 minutes per session

  • Frequency: Weekly over six consecutive weeks

  • Target Group: Girls from Year 3 upwards who are typically quiet, shy, and who would benefit from increased confidence and self-esteem.

Aims and Benefits:
Throughout the programme, pupils explore a range of emotions, learn practical techniques for relaxation and self-regulation, and develop a better understanding of assertive communication. These sessions promote emotional literacy and help build resilience through structured ‘relaxation time’ activities and reflective discussions.

Warm-up games within each session foster key interpersonal skills such as cooperation, teamwork, turn-taking, communication, and friendship. They also contribute to building self-esteem and confidence. The group format encourages a sense of belonging, which is fundamental in supporting emotional wellbeing and positive peer relationships.
