Social Boundaries Primary Sorting Activity – Item 798
Help children aged 7–11 understand personal boundaries, respect other people’s boundaries and recognise respectful and disrespectful behaviour with this engaging social boundaries primary sorting activity.
This printable social boundaries activity gives pupils a practical way to explore everyday situations involving personal space, physical touch, belongings, privacy, saying no, joining in, friendships and respecting other people’s choices.
Pupils sort scenario cards into two pockets: Respecting Boundaries and Not Respecting Boundaries. The activity also includes a boundary scale, allowing children to think more deeply about situations that may not be completely clear-cut. This encourages discussion about how context, personal preferences and how someone feels can affect whether a boundary is being respected.
The resource is ideal for ELSA sessions, social skills work, emotional wellbeing activities, PSHE lessons, pastoral support and small-group work with children aged 7–11.
This resource helps children to:
- Understand what personal boundaries are.
- Recognise when someone is respecting or not respecting a boundary.
- Think about personal space and physical boundaries.
- Understand that people can have different boundaries.
- Practise recognising and respecting “no” and “stop”.
- Consider how behaviour can make another person feel.
- Talk about appropriate and inappropriate behaviour in everyday situations.
- Develop social awareness, empathy and respectful relationship skills.
- Think about situations that may fall somewhere between clearly respectful and disrespectful.
The activity can be used as a one-to-one ELSA activity or with a small group, with the scenario cards providing plenty of opportunities for discussion and reflection.
