Self esteem First! Game – item 442

This ‘Self esteem first game’  will give children a boost to their self esteem. Children will be thinking about their strengths and talents, their wishes, what they are proud of, what they are grateful for,  happy memories and affirmations. There is also an element of maths in the game because they need to be able to work out who has the highest number. Also lots of calculating to do at the end. Might be a good idea to have a calculator handy. Suitable for year 2 upwards mainly due to the high calculations involved with this game.

How to play

Put the cards in a pile facing downwards. Each player picks a card. The leader of the game picks a category card. Each child must either:

Strength or talent– Name a strength or talent that they have
Wishes for me– Say what they wish for
Proud to me be– Name something they are proud of
Happy memory– Tell a happy memory
Grateful for – Something they are grateful for
Affirmation – Use an ‘I am or I can’ statement. This could be linked to the strength or talent. E.g. I am kind, I am helpful, I can play piano, I can do a handstand’

The highest number for that category wins just their card. The rest go in the pile.

Continue with each child picking a card and the leader picking a new category.

Play for a set amount of time or until all the cards are won.
The person with the highest value wins – you might need a calculator or the children can practice their maths skills.
