Item 082 – Communication styles
The Communication styles resource look at the three basic ways of communication. Communication is so important for all children and adults. Being able to act assertively is generally the best way of sorting out problems. Many children do not understand how to act assertively so lots of role play is essential. Children need to have an understanding that when acting assertively there is much more likely to be a compromise where both parties win. This little diagram shows this nicely.
The three basic styles that we are using in these resources are:
- Passive communication
- Aggressive communication
- Assertive communication
There are games, activities and worksheets to enable children to understand these three styles of communication and to understand which way is the best way. Little monsters using the emotions of sad (passive), happy (assertive) and angry (aggressive) are used to show the different styles of communication.
