This Difference Pupil Leaflet helps children understand that people are unique in how they look, think, feel and experience the world. It encourages respect, curiosity and kindness towards differences in appearance, ability, communication and learning.

The leaflet begins by exploring what makes us different, helping children recognise that differences in how we look, behave, learn and enjoy things are a normal part of being human. It also introduces the idea that some differences are visible, while others are not always easy to see.

It then explains disabilities in an age-appropriate and respectful way, highlighting that some people need extra support or adjustments to help them take part fully in school and everyday life. It supports children to understand that accessibility and inclusion are important so that everyone can belong.

The leaflet also introduces the idea that everyone’s brain works in different ways. It gently explains neurodiversity, including autism, ADHD and other ways of thinking and learning, helping children understand that there is no single “right” way for a brain to work.

A key focus is kindness and inclusion. Children are encouraged to think about how their words and actions affect others, and how they can include, respect and support their peers. It reinforces that curiosity is okay, but it should always be paired with respect and empathy.

The final section celebrates differences, helping children see that everyone has strengths, interests and qualities that matter. It promotes the message that being different is not something to hide, but something that helps make communities richer and more interesting.
