My Place EYFS – Children’s Mental Health Week

Help young children explore the idea of belonging with these colourful, visually engaging talking cards, created for Children’s Mental Health Week under the theme “This Is My Place”.

Each card combines a clear, simple prompt with a friendly illustration to make the concept of belonging concrete and easy for children aged 3–5 to understand. The cards focus on everyday experiences and environments, such as playing, helping, being with friends, or spending time in safe spaces, supporting children to recognise where they feel comfortable, included, and valued.

How the cards work:

  • Designed for adult-led conversations in 1:1, small groups, or whole-class settings
  • Each card includes a prompt and speech bubble to encourage discussion or reflection
  • Supports children in identifying places and people where they feel safe, accepted, and able to be themselves
  • Visuals make the cards accessible for children who are still developing language skills or who benefit from visual support

Included prompts and visuals cover:

  • Favourite places and activities (“This is a place I like to be”, “I can play how I want”)
  • Feeling safe (“I feel safe here”, “I feel safe with this person”)
  • Social connection (“I like being with friends”, “Someone listens to me”, “Someone is kind to me”)
  • Independence and contribution (“I can be by myself”, “I can help someone”)

These printable cards are ready to use in the classroom, small group sessions, or 1:1 support, helping children identify, reflect on, and discuss belonging in a gentle, age-appropriate way.

"Debbie goes above and beyond to help with any resource we need. I particularly love the ‘Express Yourself’ booklet. The kids love it! It’s a good conversation starter, especially when I print one for myself and we draw by sharing experiences together. Love it! Dona Jones - SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant and ELSA (primary)"
