Interesting things to share and ask – Transition activity

This is an activity about ‘Interesting things to share and ask’ and is suitable for supporting pupils who are afraid that they won’t make friends when they go up to a new school or class.

Making friends in a new environment, like transitioning to secondary school, can be both exciting and daunting. To ease the process, it’s helpful to share interesting things about themselves and ask engaging questions.

Building connections and finding common interests offer numerous benefits for making new friends. These shared interests create a foundation for deeper conversations and lasting relationships. When they can connect over common hobbies or experiences, it fosters a sense of belonging and mutual understanding. This can enhance their social skills, boost their confidence, and reduce feelings of loneliness. Additionally, having friends with similar interests provides a support system, making it easier to navigate challenges and celebrate successes. Strong friendships built on shared interests also encourage personal growth as they explore and engage in activities together, leading to a richer, more fulfilling social life.

"Being the only ELSA in my setting until now, I don’t know what I would have done without this website. It’s been amazing. 'Support' is definitely the right name for it! Thank you, Debbie."
