Introducing our ‘Hive Mindfulness Poster,’ a thoughtful addition requested by an ELSA who loved the original ‘Hive’ card featured in our ‘Be Happy Lapbook’ and wanted to see it expanded as a poster. Now available in A3 size, this poster comes in two designs—one with cheerful bees buzzing about and another in a simpler format without bees, so you can choose the style that best suits your space or your pupils.

The poster presents an easy-to-follow mindfulness acronym, ‘HIVE,’ to encourage pupils to pause, observe, and connect with the present moment:

  • HALT – pause for a moment
  • INVESTIGATE – observe your surroundings
  • VALUE – Appreciate what you notice
  • EXPERIENCE – Engage in the present moment

Being mindful means paying close attention to what’s happening right now, both inside us and around us. For pupils, mindfulness is like turning on their ‘super senses’ to fully notice what they see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste at the moment. This helps them understand their feelings better, focus more easily, and respond thoughtfully rather than react quickly.

Mindfulness can make pupils feel calmer and happier, giving them a tool to handle tricky emotions or stressful moments. It’s a bit like learning how to pause and check in with themselves, so they can make better choices and feel more in control. Mindfulness also encourages appreciation of the simple things—like the feel of the sunshine, the sound of birds, or the joy of a fun activity with friends.

Our Hive Mindfulness Poster provides simple steps for children to try mindfulness every day. The HIVE acronym makes it easy to remember:

  • Take a mini-pause whenever they feel too busy, stressed, or worried.
  • Look around to see and hear everything closely.
  • Notice the good things they find, no matter how small, and take a moment to appreciate them.
  • Instead of rushing, enjoy each part of what they’re doing, whether it’s eating, drawing, or playing with friends.

This way, mindfulness becomes a fun, everyday habit that helps children feel grounded, calm, and connected to their world.
