To be mindful of children of ALL ages who would benefit from an emotions check in I have created this resource. It is suitable for children as young as 3 or 4 and as old as 16 or even older.

The resources consists of:

  • 14 base boards with different backgrounds
  • light skinned emotion faces
  • darker skinned emotion faces
  • emoji faces
  • small girl emotion character
  • small boy emotion character

The board holds 8 emotions but because it is so difficult to choose just 8 I have included the 6 core emotions of happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised and disgusted and then added another 6 common emotions.

Choose the 8 that you want to work on with the child and keep the other 4 safely stored in case you need them.

In the photograph I laminated a base board and a set of emotion faces. I cut out all the faces. I used sticky velcro to attach the faces to the board. Very simple and cheap to do.

You have a resource here that is so adaptable to so many children/teens/young adults.

You could put the emotion cards on a lanyard for your use so there are many benefits of purchasing this resource.

This board has been developed through discussions with an ELSA who contacted me. She wanted to be able to monitor emotions throughout the day and to only work on the four basic ones to start with and then to add more once the child had an understanding of those 4. The idea was for the child to see how their emotions change throughout the day. This board will show that.

"Such a wide range of resources to choose from - always something that can be used for different ages and situations. I have used so many and return to them time and time again. They are all super, but my favourites are the actual programmes that run over several sessions - for example the Super Girl Group. So easy to follow, it provides great confidence to allow you to really engage with the group rather than worry about what to do next. Brilliant."
