Early years/KS1 Anger intervention
This intervention is written for a group of four children and is led by an ELSA or teaching assistant. It covers emotions and basic anger management. It runs for approximately 40 minutes.
There is a big emphasis on children being reflective learners; a booklet is enclosed for them to reflect on what they have learnt. This is a simple tick sheet and space for drawing or writing if they are able. A pre and post assessment is filled in by the class teacher at the beginning and end of the intervention. It is good practice for someone else who knows the child well to moderate the assessment. Perhaps their previous teacher/ELSA/ Teaching assistant. The assessment is enclosed with this pack. It is a good idea to keep a book, like a learning journey to stick the children’s work in, take photographs and make comments. This is a brilliant way of sharing with parents and teachers things that the children are doing with you.
The resources are included in this pack. There are also flashcards for key vocabulary and learning objectives. The lessons are designed to include emotions, main activity and relaxation. The last session includes a ‘snack time’.
I have also included ideas for provision in the classroom so that the learning can continue and also other children may benefit. I would suggest that this area is supervised as much as possible.
