Children’s Mental Health Week 2026

This is My Place: Helping Children Feel Safe, Seen, and Valued – Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 is a vital reminder that every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and included in their world. This year, the theme “This is My Place” encourages us to think about the environments we create for children, places where they can be themselves, express their feelings, and grow with confidence.

For children, having a sense of place isn’t just about a physical space. It’s about feeling they belong, are heard, and are valued. Whether it’s at home, school, in clubs, or in their local community, the spaces we provide can either nurture or challenge their mental wellbeing.

So how can we make sure children feel that “this is my place”?

  • Encourage Expression – Give children ways to share their thoughts and feelings through talking, drawing, or journalling. Feeling understood is the first step to feeling at home.
  • Create Safety and Routine – Consistent routines and clear expectations can give children a sense of security, which is crucial for mental health.
  • Celebrate Uniqueness – Each child is different. Highlighting strengths, interests, and individuality helps them feel valued for who they truly are.
  • Foster Connections – Friendships, positive role models, and supportive adults all contribute to a sense of belonging. A child’s place is full of relationships that matter.
  • Provide Calm Spaces – Even small corners at home or school where a child can pause, breathe, or reflect make a big difference for wellbeing.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 reminds us that mental health is as important as physical health. By supporting children to feel that their spaces, both internal and external, are safe and welcoming, we empower them to thrive.

This week, ask the children in your life: “Where is your place?” Listen carefully. Validate their answers. And together, let’s help them feel that wherever they are, they belong.

To celebrate this week, we’ve created a collection of free downloadable resources designed to help children explore what makes them feel at home, happy, and secure:
