Body Feelings Activity with Support Story
This Body Feelings Activity with Support Story helps children begin to understand the important link between their body sensations and their emotions. It includes a gentle, child-friendly support story with clear illustrations, alongside a body mapping activity where children can colour where they feel different emotions.
By exploring body feelings in a visual and accessible way, children are supported to develop interoception which is the ability to notice and understand what is happening inside their body. This is an important foundation for emotional awareness and regulation.
This is a neuroaffirming resource, designed to support all children, including neurodivergent pupils. It recognises that everyone experiences and expresses emotions differently, and provides a safe, non-judgemental way to explore those differences.
The resource encourages children to:
- Recognise physical signs of emotions (e.g. tight tummy, heavy body)
- Build a clearer understanding of their feelings
- Express emotions in a safe and non-verbal way
- Develop interoceptive awareness
- Strengthen emotional vocabulary and self-awareness
The combination of story and activity makes this ideal for use in one-to-one sessions, small groups, or whole class wellbeing work. It is particularly supportive for children who may find it difficult to talk about their feelings, offering a gentle and engaging starting point.
