Ambitious August Wheel of Ambition

The Ambitious August Wheel or Ambition is a simple, child-led activity that helps children recognise their hopes, goals, dreams, and the small steps they can take towards achieving them. Using the blank wheel, children can draw or write words, short phrases, or simple sentences about things they would like to try, skills they want to develop, challenges they would like to overcome, or moments when they have shown determination and confidence.

The focus is on gentle self-awareness and recognising that being “ambitious” doesn’t mean being the best, winning, or achieving huge goals. Ambition is about believing in yourself, having a go, setting personal goals, and being willing to take small steps towards something that matters to you. There are no right or wrong answers. Children are encouraged to complete the wheel at their own pace, making it a flexible and inclusive tool that supports confidence, motivation, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.

We offer two versions of the Ambitious August Wheel:

Ambitious August Wheel – Designed for the month of August, this version encourages children to reflect on their goals, what they would like to learn, things they want to improve, and ways they can challenge themselves. It helps children notice their strengths, celebrate progress, and understand that success comes from effort, perseverance, and believing they can grow.

All-Year Ambitious Wheel – A flexible, season-neutral version that can be used at any time to support goal-setting, self-belief, motivation, and personal growth throughout the year.

Both wheels are suitable for use in ELSA sessions, classrooms, small groups, or at home. Drawing is encouraged but optional, and minimal writing is required, so children of all ages and abilities can engage confidently with the activity.
