KS1-KS2 transition intervention – This intervention consists of 6 lessons to help children make the transition from KS1 to KS2. The lessons last for approximately 30-40 minutes and are for up to six children. This intervention can be run by ELSAs, Learning Mentors or Teaching assistants.
All planning and paper resources are included in the pack.
Additional resources needed include: Dice and photographs of the children when starting school and now.
The lessons are carefully structured through circle-time with some time to sit at a table and do an activity. The lessons cover the basic learning objective but also create a sense of belonging and include emotional awareness and relaxation strategies. Friendships often develop from these interventions where children can feel safe and share their feelings.
There is no set assessment for this intervention. It is purely a way of helping children to feel better about moving on with their lives. Children are asked to reflect on what they have learnt throughout each session by simply moving a pointer on their assessment wheels.
Children chosen for this intervention would perhaps be those where the class teacher has concerns over their transition to KS2.
